The persistence of the same leadership for decades, underpinned by these flawed processes, calls into question the integrity of the country’s democratic framework. The control exercised by the ruling party over the electoral commission, ELECAM, and the subsequent influence on election outcomes, highlights a critical deficiency. This lack of genuine independence erodes public trust and perpetuates a cycle where the ruling party's dominance remains unchallenged. The financial resources expended on these elections represent a significant waste, particularly given Cameroon’s pressing developmental needs.
